"description": " Senior Gameplay Programmer on WHAT THE CAR? Do you love working in small, creative teams turning wild ideas into a reality? What about having creative and technical ownership from ideation through to release? Read on! Triband is the award-winning studio behind the WHAT THE? comedy game series, played by millions worldwide. From our home in central Copenhagen, more than 60 wonderful humans are united by a simple mission: to make everyone laugh.

WHAT THE CAR? is our absurdly silly racing adventure game which addresses fundamental questions such as… What if a car had legs? Or a jetpack? Or secretly identified as a sailboat? First launched in 2023 on Apple Arcade and now also on Steam, it has gained a steady following of dedicated fans who have contributed hundreds of thousands of community-built levels.

We’re looking for a Senior Gameplay Programmer to help us continue to build upon CAR’s success by expanding upon its absurdly silly universe! We believe the best people to come up with ideas are the ones implementing them, so we expect a high degree of creativity and game design knowledge from our Gameplay Programmers, in addition to their crazy tech skills. This role involves around 60% programming and 40% game design.

Here’s what that looks like day to day Build and ship gameplay code. You’ll implement features end-to-end in an existing Unity/C# codebase and ship regularly in a live environment.

Generate design ideas. You’ll take part in shaping features, articulate intent, evaluate tradeoffs, and iterate through discussion with the team.

Keep the game healthy. Fix bugs, improve systems, review test videos, and document findings so issues don’t come back to haunt us.

Extend and refine what’s there. You’ll build on existing mechanics, making them more robust and enjoyable for players.

Support and collaborate. You’re part of a small, closely knit, cross discipline team where people help each other reach their goals.

Prototype and let go. Not everything ships, and that’s fine. Comfort with iteration and refactoring is part of the job.

You’re a great match if You have 8+ years of commercial game development experience, having shipped at least two games as part of a team You have strong Unity and C# skills. You’re comfortable navigating a shared codebase and writing maintainable code you’d be proud to hand off You care about stability, performance, and long-term maintainability, and you leave systems better than you found them You genuinely value collaboration and working very closely with every member of the team You approach other people’s ideas with openness and try to understand the intention before giving feedback or pushing back Nice to have Experience working on live games Requirements for any job at Triband You thrive in taking ownership - you spot problems, design and implement creative solutions that push projects forward You’re motivated by collaboration, mutual respect, inclusiveness, and creativity, and you actively contribute to sustaining that culture You value a positive work environment You contribute to making the studio a fun and supportive place Practicalities Primarily work on-site at our cozy office in central Copenhagen Only open to candidates who are already eligible to work in Denmark as we don’t offer relocation support or visa sponsorship for this role 37-hour work week, with flexible work hours No crunch, we put people before deadlines Our working language is English We offer Silly but ambitious projects The chance to contribute to great games that reach millions of players A playful and ambitious work environment where experimentation is encouraged Friendly and kind colleagues who love making each other laugh as much as making games A professional development budget to invest in your growth Social activities like Friday bars, hobby nights, board game nights and team events Daily lunch at a local restaurant just a walk across the lakes away, with plant-based options (and soft ice on Thursdays).

Six weeks of paid vacation Paid parental leave at full salary for the periods covered by state reimbursement Child s first sick day on us, no questions asked Pension plan and private health insurance Endless amounts of coffee WHAT THE TRIBAND? Triband is the award-winning studio behind the WHAT THE? comedy game series, which is played by millions worldwide. From our home in central Copenhagen, more than 50 wonderful humans are united by our mission to make everyone laugh. To do so, we focus on exploring comedy through gameplay. We like to break player expectations, use wonderful music, slick art, and create a quirky atmosphere. We experiment a lot, and it doesn’t always work out, but we always learn something.

We put people first and strive to create a safe and creative working environment. We believe that teams, not individuals, make games - and we believe diversity makes for better teams. For these reasons, we look for people who bring new perspectives and will challenge us and our way of doing things.
