The Job   WB Games Avalanche is looking for a Mission Designer to help create compelling, high-quality mission content. In this role, you will own missions from concept through ship, crafting memorable player experiences that blend gameplay, narrative, pacing, and world-building into cohesive and engaging content.

We’re looking for a designer who is equal parts creative, collaborative, organized, and adaptable —someone who can champion a mission’s vision while working closely with cross-disciplinary partners to deliver polished content at the highest quality bar. Join the team behind the blockbuster open world, action RPG Hogwarts Legacy as we create what’s next!   What part will you play?   As a Mission Designer, you will be responsible for driving your missions from early concept to final implementation, ensuring they deliver a best-in-class player experience across narrative, gameplay, and production.

Mission Ownership & Design   Design and own mission content from concept through final polish and release.

Create clear mission goals, player objectives, progression, and rewards that support the broader game experience.

Develop compelling quest flows, mission structures, gameplay sequences, and narrative beats.

Craft varied and engaging player experiences through pacing, encounter design, exploration, combat, and choice.

Design missions that fit cohesively within the larger game world, story, and player progression.

Identify opportunities to leverage existing game systems in creative ways while helping define needs for new mechanics when necessary.

Contribute to early mission vision work, including tone, atmosphere, setting, and overall player experience.

Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration   Partner closely with narrative, level design, world teams, systems design, implementation, QA, production, and other stakeholders to bring missions to life.

Work with story teams to build compelling narrative arcs and ensure mission content aligns with the broader storytelling goals of the game.

Collaborate with world-building teams to help define mission spaces, environmental storytelling opportunities, and gameplay needs.

Coordinate with systems and other partner teams on mission rewards, mechanics, and player-facing incentives.

Proactively identify the right stakeholders for each mission and bring them together as needed to solve problems, align on goals, and move content forward.

Production & Communication   Shepherd mission content through development, maintaining momentum, clarity, and quality through each milestone.

Help coordinate reviews, brainstorms, playtests, and cross-team discussions in partnership with production.

Maintain clear, current, and actionable documentation, including mission flows, design documentation, and milestone updates.

Prepare mission capture/video at milestone checkpoints to communicate current state and player experience to the broader team.

Communicate progress, risks, dependencies, and scope needs clearly and proactively.

Iteration, Quality & Polish   Conduct regular playtesting of your missions to evaluate pacing, usability, clarity, balance, and overall fun.

Gather and incorporate feedback from peers, stakeholders, and play testers to improve mission quality.

Partner with implementers, narrative partners, production, and QA to identify and resolve bugs and content issues.

Take ownership of the quality of your missions by personally testing, validating, and refining content throughout development.

Make thoughtful scope decisions when needed, understanding what is essential to the mission experience and what can be adapted to meet production realities.

What do we need from you?   Key Qualities   Excellent communication skills   Strong collaboration and teamwork   Solid project management and organizational skills   Adaptability and openness to feedback   Curiosity and a desire to learn from other games as well as the game we’re building   Required Skills & Experience   Experience designing missions, quests, or equivalent gameplay content for shipped games   Strong understanding of mission structure, objective design, pacing, progression, and player motivation   Experience owning content from concept to ship, including iteration and polish   Ability to work effectively across multiple disciplines and advocate for both player experience and production realities   Strong documentation skills and the ability to clearly communicate design intent   Experience playtesting and iterating on gameplay content based on feedback and data   Strong understanding of how narrative, level design, gameplay systems, and world-building intersect in mission content   Ability to self-direct, prioritize, and follow through on multiple moving parts in a production environment   Nice to Have   Experience working on AAA action-adventure or open-world RPG titles   Familiarity with branching mission design and player-choice-driven content   Experience working with quest implementation pipelines and scripting tools   Understanding of QA workflows, bug tracking, and milestone development processes   Passion for open-world storytelling and systemic gameplay   Why Join Us   At WB Games Avalanche, you’ll help shape memorable mission experiences, working with a talented team dedicated to building rich worlds, compelling stories, and exceptional gameplay.
