Lion Studios is a mobile games publisher that works with mobile developers to get their games discovered by players around the world. Headquartered in San Francisco, Lion Studios’ creative and strategy teams utilize their expertise to help game developers break through the noise and grow their businesses.
Since launching in 2018, Lion Studios has driven 90% of its games to the Top 10 in the App Store and Google Play and helped drive 16 games to #1 in the US App Store’s Top Free chart.
Role Overview
As a Market Intelligence Analyst, you will help Lion Studios to identify opportunities in the mobile games market and turn market signals into practical recommendations. You will track competitor launches and releases, analyse product and growth strategies, and identify underserved or fast-growing areas that could shape Lion’s pipeline and growth.
This is a hands-on, cross-functional role working closely with partner studios, studio management, game designers, product stakeholders, and the creative team. You will contribute from early-stage ideation through execution, using research and critical thinking to help teams make stronger product decisions.
You will thrive in this role if you combine strong game design judgement with an entrepreneurial mindset, can work autonomously, and enjoy moving from analysis to clear, actionable ideas.
Key Responsibilities
Track competitor launches, releases, product changes, and market activity to understand where competitors are placing their bets.
Identify emerging trends, underserved audiences, and areas of the mobile games market that are gaining momentum.
Translate market signals into actionable recommendations for Lion’s product pipeline and growth strategy.
Conduct competitor and market analyses to understand product, game design, creative, and growth strategies.
Support partner studios from ideation through execution by contributing market context, game insights, and opportunity assessments.
Prepare and share clear reports, game analyses, and product deconstructions with relevant stakeholders.
Work cross-functionally with studio managers, game designers, product stakeholders, and creative teams.
Build strong working relationships with a group of partner studios and adapt your focus as team and product needs evolve.
Explore ways to exploit AI to make research, analysis, execution, and recurring workflows more effective.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
3+ years of relevant experience in market research, market intelligence, game design, product strategy, marketing strategy, or a related analytical role.
Strong game design sense and the ability to assess why game concepts, mechanics, and market opportunities may succeed.
Experience interpreting market and competitor data and turning it into clear insights and practical next steps.
Strong critical thinking skills, with the ability to form point of views.
An entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to spot underserved opportunities and propose ways to act on them.
Strong communication skills and the ability to present analysis clearly to both creative and commercial stakeholders.
Desired Skills
Experience in mobile gaming, ideally within a studio that regularly takes games from ideation to launch and responds quickly to market trends.
Experience in app publishing or another fast-moving consumer product environment may also be relevant when paired with strong market analysis and product judgement.
Familiarity with AI tools is a plus; a willingness to learn and apply them is important.
