What We Are Looking For

As a Senior UX Designer, you will help to ensure that the players can easily understand and navigate the various UI systems within the game and how they connect to our core gameplay loops. This role involves working closely with the Lead UX Designer, UI/UX Director, Game Designers and UI team. Our UX team works collaboratively with the UI Art team and the UI Code team to ensure quality, accessible UIs. While generally assigned to one project at a time, UX Designers may often be asked to provide feedback and share best practices across projects and studios within Gearbox.

Responsibilities

Review documentation from design teams to confirm that proposed features have appropriate feedback called out that fits within the vision of the UI.

Facilitate implementation by providing the UI team with design documentation and reference material as needed.

Help define and maintain cohesive UX standards across all menus and UI elements, establish guidelines for typography, layouts, accessibility, and universal control schemes.

Work closely with the UI and design teams throughout implementation to make sure that the overall experience is polished, and the feedback is easily understood.

Help collate testing criteria for UI playtests and assist in turning feedback into actionable items as needed.

Provide input to Systems, Content and the UI leads on confusion points within the game.

Participate in implementing quick UI prototypes in the engine, and populate and fine-tune certain aspects of the game, such as UI behavior, text entries, tutorials, and controls.

Integrate accessibility best practices as part of their daily work.

Qualifications

At least 7 years of professional experience with games UI/UX.

Experience shipping a AAA title, with a preference towards Unreal technology and first person shooters.

A proven track record of design and implementation in video games.

A strong understanding of modern UI experiences in games, including player flow through menus, HUD design, control mapping, and methods of player feedback.

Excellent documentation, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

An ability to maintain focus and self-motivation towards the current project goals.

Nice-to-Haves

An understanding of core Borderlands mechanics, and familiarity of how gamepad, keyboard and mouse interfaces work for modern shooters.

Co-op and/or Online Multiplayer experience.

Experience with the certification and shipping process on modern consoles.

Experience with Unreal Engine and UMG.

Fluency in French.

Previous experience in leadership or mentoring junior/intermediate designers/artists.

Experience or training with game Accessibility standards and best practices.
