Electronic Arts creates next-level entertainment experiences that inspire players and fans around the world. Here, everyone is part of the story. Part of a community that connects across the globe. A place where creativity thrives, new perspectives are invited, and ideas matter. A team where everyone makes play happen.
EA SPORTS is one of the most iconic brands of entertainment - connecting hundreds of millions around the world to the sports they love through a portfolio of industry-leading video games.
Role Overview The Art Director reports directly to the Head of the unannounced 3A title China team and leads the holistic visual strategy for the China version. Leveraging the high-quality base game architecture developed by EA global studio, this role focuses on the localization, culturalization, and visual adaptation of the game to deeply resonate with the Chinese market and local player preferences. The Art Director is responsible for overseeing the entire visual spectrum—including 2D UI, live service content design, and 3D assets concept direction and feasibility check, with overseeing final visual quality. Working in tight collaboration with the core game team, external publishing partners, and internal cross-functional leaders, this role drives the aesthetic vision, adaptation pipelines, and creative excellence required to deliver a world-class, culturally tailored sports experience at scale.
Key Responsibilities: Comprehensive Visual Leadership: Lead the visual strategy and execution for the China version across all art disciplines, including 2D UI/UX, promotional content design, and in-game 3D assets.
Hyperculturalization & Adaptation: Partner extensively with the EA Korea base game core team to understand foundational art assets, driving the localization and cultural adaptation of these visuals to meet the specific aesthetic and operational needs of the Chinese market.
Cross-team Collaboration: Act as the primary artistic bridge between the China Pod, core team developers, external publishing partners, and internal stakeholders (Design, Engineering, Production) to ensure aligned creative goals and smooth asset integration.
Pipeline & Workflow Optimization: Drive improvements to localization workflows, asset pipelines, and production processes that enable the art team to efficiently adapt and deploy high-quality content into a fast-paced live service environment.
Visual Cohesion: Champion visual quality and cultural authenticity across UI themes, monetization content, 3D presentation, environments, and overall game presentation.
Team Development: Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary Art team, fostering a culture of creativity, cross-border collaboration, and continuous learning.
Technical Innovation: Identify opportunities to improve team productivity and content localization speed through automation, AI-assisted workflows, new tools, and emerging content creation technologies.
Qualifications & Requirements: 12+ years of experience in game development, with a proven track record of leading multidisciplinary art, technical art, or content production teams.
Demonstrated ability to drive visual quality across multiple disciplines simultaneously, specifically covering 2D (UI, live-ops content design) and 3D (characters, environments, in-game assets).
Deep understanding of the Chinese gaming market, with proven experience in culturalizing, localizing, and adapting existing game visuals for Chinese players.
Experience leading cross-functional and cross-border initiatives, with a strong ability to manage relationships involving base-game developers and external publishing partners.
Strong understanding of modern game content creation workflows, real-time game development pipelines, and live service adaptation processes.
Exceptional communication, leadership, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.
Strong learning agility and the ability to adapt to changing technologies, co-development team structures, and dynamic product needs.
Passion for sports.
Preferred Skills Direct experience with sports, or live service PC online game development.
Bilingual proficiency (English and Chinese) to effectively communicate with global stakeholders and local publishing partners.
Familiarity with proprietary engines, Unreal Engine, Unity, or other real-time content creation platforms.
Experience adopting AI-assisted workflows or automation solutions specifically geared toward high-volume 2D/3D content localization.
Deep understanding of player authenticity, broadcast presentation, and sports entertainment within the context of the Chinese cultural landscape.
