Description & Requirements

Electronic Arts creates next-level entertainment experiences that inspire players and fans around the world. Here, everyone is part of the story. Part of a community that connects across the globe. A place where creativity thrives, new perspectives are invited, and ideas matter. A team where everyone makes play happen.

Creator-made content is already a proven part of EA's history — from community creation tools in Battlefield to The Gallery in The Sims 4. We believe new creative technologies and tools will expand how players engage with and contribute to our experiences, supported by thoughtful product design, safety systems, and global reach. Our focus is on enabling more players to participate in creative expression by making creation easier, safer, and more rewarding.

Joining our Research & Engineering team as a Principal Technical Artist , you will operate at the crossroads of art and technology. In this role, you will work closely with Scientists, Engineers, and Designers to define the future of game world creation using advanced AI technologies. You will reimagine and implement how content is created, how worlds are built, and how experiences are made. Bridging the gap between research and development, you will help transform cutting-edge ideas into tangible proof of concepts and demonstrations.

As a Principal Technical Artist you will have an extensive understanding of content pipelines, from source asset creation to final rendering, you excel at balancing visual quality with performance. You can implement novel solutions to complex art challenges. Furthermore, you keep pace with relevant research, understanding how technology must evolve to craft fantastic game worlds and visually-convincing experiences.

This is a hybrid role, onsite three days a week in Montreal, Canada.

You will report to our Senior Art Director.

As a Principal Technical Artist , you will: Explore new frontiers and push beyond the current state of content creation pipelines and real-time visuals, for next-generation experiences, powered by AI.

Work with other developers to design novel technologies that bring game worlds to life, including developing new approaches to enable art for game worlds at scale, quality, and for anyone to create.

Bring new ideas, discuss, and implement solutions to some of the most complex video game content creation challenges to create differentiation for EA.

Collaborate with other developers where your expertise will improve the visual quality of the work of everyone.

Participate in team efforts to create demos that showcase our work in its best light.

Partner closely with Art Direction to translate creative goals into practical technical solutions while preserving the intended visual quality and style.

Develop tools and workflows that help everyone to make art, iterate faster and make Neural Rendering technologies more controllable and useful.

Qualifications: Demonstrated expertise in AAA game development (15+ years) with shipped titles on consoles or PC, alongside proficiency in major engines such as Unreal, Unity, or proprietary.

Comprehensive, end-to-end command of content production pipelines for AAA titles.

Strong artistic sensibility and an eye for high visual quality.

Familiarity with scripting languages and compiled programming languages.

Understanding of console and PC hardware architectures, encompassing optimization strategies, performance profiling, and hardware limitations.

Practical experience utilizing AI tools like Claude Code.

Providing a portfolio, demo reel, or examples showing accomplished relevant technical artwork is highly preferred.

We want to connect you with job opportunities that align with your interests, skills, and expertise.
