What We're Looking For

On day one you will be building developer-facing tools for artists, designers, and engineers in a studio with no inherited tooling infrastructure, no existing pipeline to extend, and no team to hand off to.

The ideal candidate enjoys working with partner teams to evaluate workflows, zooming out to the broadest view of the process, and reimagining the way things could work. They understand how to shepherd deployments and adoption to deliver tools users want and use, and they are excited to share knowledge about new tech and tools.

You have built game development tools before, you understand how each discipline works day-to-day, and you have real production experience integrating AI into workflows, not just evaluating it. The tools you build need to work for non-technical users and disappear into their workflow. You know the difference between applying AI where it genuinely helps and applying it because the brief said to.

What You'll Do

- Design, build, and maintain developer-facing tools used across multiple disciplines.

- Build and maintain game development tooling within and around Unreal Engine, including editor customization, pipeline automation, and workflow tools.

- Integrate AI/ML capabilities into tools to accelerate content creation, automate workflows, and improve developer productivity.

- Evaluate AI Interface Frameworks: benchmark and test alternative interfaces (e.g., InvokeAI, StableSwarmUI, Forge, or cloud solutions) to find the best fit for varied team skill sets

- Partner with artists, designers, engineers, and producers to identify workflow pain points and build practical solutions.

- Build developer-facing applications that make advanced capabilities accessible to non-technical users.

- Create automation solutions for asset processing, data management, content generation, and production workflows.

- Evaluate emerging AI technologies and identify practical applications within game development contexts.

- Build scalable infrastructure supporting experimentation and deployment of AI-assisted workflows.

- Collaborate with Engineering leadership to establish best practices for internal tooling, security, and maintainability.

- Create documentation and training materials for internal users.

- Establish metrics and feedback systems to measure tool adoption and effectiveness.

- Evaluate, estimate, and maintain reporting for token use, subscriptions, and other AI costs.

Qualifications

Required

- 5+ years of experience as a Tools Engineer, Pipeline Engineer, Senior Software Engineer, or equivalent, with a game development or adjacent background.

- Demonstrated experience building game development tools, editor extensions, or production pipeline systems.

- Experience with Unreal Engine tool development and editor customization.

- Strong proficiency in Python and C++.

- Demonstrated experience integrating AI/ML technologies into tools or production workflows: applied AI in a production context, not model research.

- Experience building developer-facing tools used by non-technical users.

- Understanding of content creation workflows across multiple game development disciplines.

- Strong software architecture, debugging, and problem-solving skills.

- Active enthusiasm for and use of AI tools in your daily engineering workflow – this a studio-wide requirement, and especially central to this role.

- Experience gathering requirements from stakeholders and translating them into practical software solutions.

- Excellent communication skills: the ability to work across technical and creative disciplines.

- Ability to work independently and take ownership of long-term technical initiatives.

Preferred

- Experience building AI-assisted asset generation, content creation pipelines, or procedural content workflows.

- Familiarity with large language models, generative AI systems, or computer vision tools in production environments.

- Experience with cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, and scalable AI deployment workflows.

- Experience building internal platform tools used across multiple departments.

- Knowledge of modern data engineering and analytics workflows.

- Experience at a game studio with a dedicated tools or pipeline team.
