What We're Looking For

You are joining at the ground level of world-building for a new IP with three distinct visual environments. Your assets and in-engine work will establish the visual quality bar that the external environment art team, which scales significantly in 2027, will be measured against.

You work from briefs and creative direction with discipline. You build modular kits that are production-ready and scalable, not just visually strong. You hit technical requirements, meet production schedules, and produce consistent output without requiring close oversight. The Art Director sets the direction; you execute it at a high level and help make the standards concrete.

The ideal candidate is a highly skilled environment artist who brings worlds to life through strong craftsmanship, compositional instinct, and attention to detail. You have the versatility to work across multiple visual styles and the discipline to execute against a creative vision without requiring ownership of the direction.

You understand how environments shape mood, gameplay, exploration, and storytelling, and you know how to make spaces feel authentic, immersive, and visually compelling. Whether building large-scale architecture, dense organic terrain, or a small narrative-rich location, the quality of your work is consistent.

What You'll Do

- Create high-quality environment assets and world-building content from concept through final in-game implementation.

- Build modular environment kits that support efficient level creation and scalable production workflows.

- Model, sculpt, texture, and optimize architectural, organic, and prop assets for real-time use.

- Collaborate with the Art Director to execute established visual targets, style guides, and artistic standards.

- Work closely with Level Design, Technical Art, and Engineering teams to ensure environments support gameplay and technical requirements.

- Assemble and polish environment content within Unreal Engine.

- Create atmospheric spaces that support narrative, exploration, and player immersion.

- Maintain asset quality while meeting performance, memory, and production requirements.

- Participate in art reviews and iterate on content based on feedback.

- Help establish and maintain environment art workflows, standards, and documentation.

- Support external development partners and outsourced content integration when needed.

Qualifications

Required

- 6+ years of experience as an Environment Artist, with credits on one or more shipped AAA or AA titles.

- Strong portfolio demonstrating excellence in environment creation across multiple styles and settings.

- Expertise in modular environment creation and world-building workflows.

- Experience creating both architectural and organic environment assets.

- Proficiency with Substance Painter, ZBrush, Maya, or equivalent industry-standard tools.

- Strong understanding of composition, scale, lighting, material definition, and environmental storytelling.

- Experience creating production-ready assets that meet performance and technical requirements.

- Experience with Unreal Engine 5 environment creation workflows.

- Familiarity with Nanite, Lumen, Virtual Shadow Maps, and modern UE5 environment pipelines.

- Ability to work effectively from creative briefs, concept art, and established style guides.

- Active engagement with AI tools relevant to environment art: including AI-assisted reference, texture generation, or asset pipeline tooling. Comfort with AI in the art pipeline is a studio-wide requirement.

- Strong collaboration and communication skills.

- Ability to balance quality, efficiency, and production schedules.

Preferred

- Experience creating atmospheric, grounded, realistic, or dark-themed environments.

- Knowledge of material creation workflows and physically based rendering (PBR) techniques.

- Experience supporting outsourced art production or collaborating with external development partners.

- Familiarity with procedural workflows and environment optimization techniques.

- Experience working on action, horror, immersive simulation, or narrative-driven titles.
